Desalination plants operate in some of the most corrosive environments on earth — hot, concentrated seawater at elevated pressures. TOKO TECH is a leading supplier of duplex and super duplex stainless steel pipes specifically for SWRO (seawater reverse osmosis) and MED (multi-effect distillation) desalination facilities. Key Challenges
Seawater Corrosion
Seawater at 35,000 ppm chlorides attacks standard stainless steel through pitting and crevice corrosion. Duplex 2205 (PREN 34-35) and super duplex 2507 (PREN 40-43) are required for seawater-facing components.
High Pressure Membrane Feed
SWRO membrane trains operate at 55-82 bar (800-1,200 psi) requiring high-strength piping. Super duplex 2507 with 550 MPa yield strength enables thinner walls and lower weight compared to 316L.
Brine Discharge
Concentrated brine (70,000+ ppm TDS) is even more corrosive than intake seawater. Deaerated brine in the absence of oxygen accelerates crevice corrosion — demanding the highest alloy grades.
Large Diameter Requirements
Large desalination plants require pipe diameters up to 48" for seawater intake and outfall. Welded duplex pipe offers the necessary size range with superior corrosion resistance to epoxy-lined carbon steel.

ASTM A790 super duplex 2507 seamless pipes for SWRO high-pressure feed lines. Yield strength of 550 MPa enables wall thickness reduction of 30-40% versus 316L, reducing weight and cost for large plants.
Duplex 2205 Intake & Outfall
ASTM A928 welded duplex 2205 pipes up to 48" for seawater intake, brine discharge, and cooling water systems. Long design life with minimal corrosion allowance.
316L Chemical Dosing Lines
Seamless 316L small-bore tubing for antiscalant, coagulant, and chemical dosing systems. Meets all hygiene requirements for drinking water quality permeate handling.
Nickel Alloy Evaporator Tubes
For thermal MED/MSF desalination, Inconel 625 and super duplex tubes provide decades of service in hot brine environments — resisting both general corrosion and stress corrosion cracking.
