Industry Overview

Geothermal energy harnesses hot, mineral-rich fluids from deep underground reservoirs — creating extreme corrosion and scaling challenges for piping systems. TOKO TECH provides specialized duplex, super duplex, and nickel alloy pipes engineered for geothermal brine handling, steam gathering, and reinjection systems. Our materials are qualified to ISO 13680 for geothermal casing and tubing and NACE MR0175 for sour geothermal conditions.

Key Challenges

Brine Corrosion

Geothermal brine at 150-350°C contains dissolved chlorides (10,000-100,000+ ppm), CO₂, H₂S, and silica. This combination creates severe general and localized corrosion that standard stainless steels cannot withstand.

Scaling & Fouling

Silica and calcite precipitation from cooling geothermal brine causes severe scaling that reduces flow capacity and heat transfer. Material selection must balance corrosion resistance with resistance to scale adhesion.

Sour Geothermal Fields

Volcanic geothermal sources often contain hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) creating sour service conditions requiring NACE MR0175 compliant materials — duplex 2205 and super duplex 2507 are standard selections.

Thermal Expansion

Temperature differentials of 150°C+ between cold startup and hot operation create significant thermal expansion stresses. Proper material selection and expansion loop design are critical for long-term reliability.

TOKO TECH Solutions

Super Duplex 2507 Production Casing

Super duplex 2507 seamless pipes for geothermal production wells — combining high strength (550 MPa YS) with excellent resistance to hot brine corrosion. Qualified to ISO 13680 for OCTG applications.

Duplex 2205 Steam Gathering

Duplex 2205 seamless and welded pipes for two-phase steam/brine gathering systems. Superior erosion-corrosion resistance compared to carbon steel, with double the service life.

Inconel 625 for Extreme Conditions

For the most aggressive geothermal fields with pH below 3 and extreme chloride levels, Inconel 625 provides near-immunity to localized corrosion while maintaining strength at elevated temperatures.

Titanium Grade 2 Heat Exchangers

Titanium Grade 2 tubes for geothermal binary cycle heat exchangers — completely immune to seawater and brine corrosion, enabling efficient Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) power generation.
